In the 1920-30s, basketball burst into the life of sports fans of the Soviet Union and each team, especially the women's team, tried not only to win, but also to look fashionable.

Back then fans of the new game did not have sneakers with arch supports, nor uniforms made of high-tech and breathable fabric, but the concept of common design and fashion gained a foothold.

It is known that each district developed their own unique uniform. For example, the Vitebsk district played wearing dark blue tank tops (men) and so called “half-sleeves” (women) and dark blue shorts. On the chest, the athletes wore a diamond-shaped badge, where “Vitebsk” was written in white letters on a blue background. This was preserved in the documents of the Vitebsk archive.

Unfortunately, due to the fact that during the II World War the archives were badly damaged, the record keepers have so far failed to find pictures of the first domestic masters of the basketball, however, in the Federal Catalog of the Museum Fund of the Russian Federation there are photographs of women's teams that date back to 1920- 1930s. Thanks to the records, we can see how those beautiful basketball players were dressed. It seems that in such sports shoes and clothes, now few people would be able and want to play. However, you definitely cannot deny the elegance of these girls of the early twentieth century.
