With the assistance of their head coach Gustavo Conti, Flamengo defeated last year's winners - San Pablo Burgos - in their decisive match. Prior to this, Flamengo won the trophy in 2014 and are the only Brazilian club to win the Intercontinental Cup in the 21st century.
The tournament was first held in Africa, and for the first time an African club took part in it. The winner of the local basketball league Zamalek lost to Lakeland Magic in the match for 3rd place with a score of 78:113.
The MVP of the tournament was Lucas Martinez, averaging 14.7 points per game, 4.3 rebounds and 4 assists. The commemorative prize was presented to the player by Vassilis Spanoulis, who was awarded this title in 2013.
