The win of the National Team of Russian over the United States did not give the Women’s Team of Belarus a free pass into the quarterfinals of the FIBA 3x3 U18 World Cup 2021.

At first, the team of Belarus got into the “group of death” of the Cup, where the teams of the USA and Russia were seeded. However, the players of the Women’s Team of Belarus, who were 2-3 years younger than their opponents, proved themselves decently at the FIBA 3x3 U18 World Cup 2021.

In four games of the pool B, the team of Belarus won three times over Russia with a score of 22:9, Slovenia with a score of 14:8 and Mongolia with a score of 22:10 and was defeated only by the US National Team with a score of 13:19. Unfortunately, this was not enough to get into the quarterfinals.

The Women's Team of Belarus 18 roster is: Yelizaveta Shyshliuk, Palina Damianiuk, Katsiaryna Novik, Yauheniya Bernatskaya, Palina Kastsiukavets (backup, individual skill competition).

The head coach is Andrey Navoichik.

In the final game of Group B, the teams of the USA and Russia met. The team of Russia won a sensational victory, after which they played the National Team of Belarus by all parameters in the group standings. By the competition rules, if after matching all the components, the teams still have an equal number of points, then priority is given to the team with the highest seeding. Thus, the right to play in the quarterfinals of the FIBA 3x3 U18 World Cup 2021 was given to the National Team of Russia, which was seeded at number 2. The team of Belarus (6th seeding) finished on 3 position in the group.

And yet now we will continue to cheer for the representative of the National Team Palina Kastsiukavets, who on 27 August will join to the semifinals of the basketball skills competition held within the framework of the FIBA 3x3 U18 World Cup 2021. In the semi-final, Palina Kastsiukavets will encounter an opponent from Latvia. Basketball players from Hungary and Russia will compete in the second semi-final. The winners will reach the final, where they will play for the main award of the competition. The match starts at 17:45 by Belarusian time.

The broadcast is on the FIBA 3x3 YouTube channel.

After the returning to Minsk, the girls will start training for the FIBA 3x3 U17 Europe Cup 2021, which will be held on 17-19 September 2021.

- It is very disappointing that due to the unequal conditions of the competition, our team, having demonstrated excellent results, was deprived of the opportunity to compete for the medals of the FIBA 3x3 U18 World Cup 2021, - said Nastassia Marynina,  BBF Secretary General and Executive Director. - The groups were made up of 5, 4 and 3 teams, and only 2 from each pool go to the quarterfinals. Besides, the girls at the preliminary stage held a different number of games. It is clear that in the pool where Switzerland, Hungary and Estonia were, it was much easier to cope with this task. At our request, the managers explained that since the rejections from France and Sri Lanka were received shortly before the competition and due to the restrictions established by the Participant Protocol, it was impossible to replace the teams. In addition, due to the fact that the removing of applications occurred after the seeding date and was close to the start of the competition, FIBA was also unable to change the format of the competition. Before the technical session, we nevertheless submitted a proposal to FIBA to revise the seeding, giving the participants the opportunity to compete in equal conditions. However, our proposal was also rejected, referring to a tight time. Of course, we will continue the proceedings on this issue so that this situation does not happen again in the future.
