The new stage of the "Step into the Future" project started on 17th February 2021. Now, the target audience is youth coaches.
This seminar gives a start to "Step to the Future" – a large joined event of the BBF and FIBA Europe which will take place in all regions of our country. Now, the target audience is youth coaches. The main lecturer is the Serbian specialist Zlatan Presic, the head coach of the Belarusian Women’s National U-18 team, and the coach of the BC "Horizont". In 2019 and 2020, the FIBA Europe campaign "Her World, Her Rules" was successfully held in Belarus under his guidance. The project was dedicated to young players who were born in 2007-2008; the best players continue their studies at the Republican State Sports School.
On Wednesday 17th February, 23 coaches and 24 players (born in 2009-2010), who represent Gomel, Svetlogorsk, Kalinkovichi, Rechitsa, Zhlobin, Dobrush, Chechersk, and Korma, came to the Gomel Regional Center of the Olympic Reserve for team sports to participate in a two-day seminar.
"I would like to thank the Belarusian Basketball Federation and the representatives of Gomel who are organizing this event,” said Zlatan Presic. – I am sure that the coaches had the opportunity not only to improve their knowledge of basketball but also to exchange experiences, ideas and discuss issues. For children, this seminar became a good motivation for further basketball development".
"In 2021, we decided to focus on youth coaches, as they are the most important developers of basketball talents, – said Nastassia Marynina, Secretary-General and Executive Director of the BBF. – Gomel was not chosen by chance. The leaders of our teams Anastasiya and Uladzimir Verameyenka, Aliaksandr Semianiuk, Kiryl Sitnik, and Andrei Rahozenka began their basketball careers here. The region is famous for its tall and physically strong players, which means that specialists are doing a lot of work on the selection and training in primary groups. We hope that the seminars will be useful for coaches from all regions, and the best players will join the youth National teams in a couple of years. In addition, the best players in the future will be recommended to study in the Olympic Reserve schools. All coaches were issued methodological materials that they can be used in their work. Our colleagues from the Russian Basketball Federation helped us and provided modern and high-quality manuals. The translation of the Serbian textbook is also being carried out; all participants will receive it during the seminars".
Tomorrow, on 18th February, Anastasiya Verameyenka, the Women's National Team player will join the seminar.
The next seminar will take place in Grodno from 21st to 22nd February. Then Zlatan Presic will visit to Brest, Vitebsk, Mogilev, Molodechno, and Minsk. It is also planned to host a large final training camp for the best players selected by the experts.
We would like to remind you that in 2018-2020 within the framework of the joint project of BBF and FIBA Europe "Step to the Future" two large-scale festivals of basketball skills were held for young Belarusian athletes, including regional selection stages and finals, which were held at two arenas of the capital – Falcon Club Arena and the Sports Palace respectively. In addition, in the summer and autumn of 2019, the training camps for children were organized in Volozhin and Minsk with the help of the U.S. Embassy in Belarus; the main lecturers were the American experts Chris Dial and Justin Berry, representing The Basketball Embassy. In 2020, a large-scale festival, 3x3 basketball tournaments were held for young Belarusian athletes at the recreation center "Prival "and "Zeleny Bor", as well as basketball skills contest "Basketball on Christmas" in December in Mogilev.
