Who can be called the most valuable player during season 2019-2020 of Belarus Women's National Championship?

Oderah Chidom, Tsmoki-Minsk

Statistics for the season: 15 games, 18.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.9 block shots in 20.0 minutes

The best on points and efficiency, top-5 on rebounds, the team’s first place in the scoresheet - center player of Tsmoki-Minsk without any doubts is the main contender for the MVP title of the season 2019-2020. Oderah spend only 20 minutes on the court, but it’s enough for Tsmoki to achieve a significant advantage in the games.

The American is one of the most stable basketball players of the season. Never in the entire stage of the regular season did she score less than 10 points, while in 6 games she immediately brought to Tsmoki 20 or more points and made 6 double-doubles in 14 matches.

Chidom practically doesn’t attack from outside, preferring to push opponents under the hoop, as statistics say: the center made only 8 shots outside restricted area. But practically no one can cope with an American in the Belarusian championship: she scores 70% during game time and successfully does almost 5 penalties for the match with a good percentage (77%).

The coaching staff of Tsmoki keeps its center “in safe” in most matches of the regular season. We can only guess how Oderah Chidom would shown herself in the playoff matches, where the price of the error is much higher.

Janae Louise Smith, Horizont

Statistics for the season: 18 games, 17.3 points, 8.8 rebounds in 22.5 minutes

Perhaps the main rival of Oderah Chidom in the race for the title of the most valuable player during season 2019-2020 is Janae Smith. This center player is the best in Horizont on points and rebounds, along with Yanina Inkina she is the main team’s attacking option.

The game styles of Chidom and Smith are quite similar. Janae very rarely throws from outside, but fully offset it with real power under the basket. From the painted area the American attacks with an incredible percentage - 72% of the attacks reach the goal! Like Oderah, Janae dictates to rivals in championship her own conditions under the backboard and in half of the matches she made double-doubles with rebounds.

It is important that in games with principled rivals the center does not disappear from the radar. 22.0 points and 10.7 rebounds in games against Tsmoki, 20.5 and 11.5 against Olimpia - these are quite serious numbers that would allow Janae Smith to become the most valuable player of the season - but only if the Horizont would outperform Tsmoki in the final standings.

Viktoryia Hasper, Tsmoki-Minsk

Statistics for the season: 10 games, 18.0 points, 9.7 rebounds in 22.7 minutes

Yes, Tsmoki-Minsk actually has the best front line in the entire championship. Two center – Gasper and Chidom – for two bring the team more than 36 points and 17 rebounds on average per match. Unlike the American colleague in the line, the center player of Women’s National Team of Belarus can and love to attack from three-point line, and this is what allows coaching staff to release a couple of their leaders on the floor at the same time.

Viktoryia, who has been playing for Tsmoki since 2012, has the best career figures in almost all respects - performance, rebounds, the number of shots from the game and the penalty line, efficiency...

It seems that the only serious obstacle to the MVP title is that Victoria took part in only 10 of the 24 games of her team. It is difficult to get the reward of the most valuable player if you go to the floor in less than half of the games.

Nadzeya Nadzezhka, Olimpia

Statistics for the season: 23 games, 12.8 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.7 steals in 26.1 minutes

Forward of the Grodno team is not included in the top 10 players of the championship in any of the main statistical indicators: 11thin performance, 16thin assists, 12thin rebounds. But at the same time, Nadzezhka is the main player in Olimpia, the third team of the tournament.

Nadzeya is an universal soldier. She can be quite effective both in defense and in attack, the only one from the whole Olimpia who score more than 10 points per game and spend more than 25 minutes on the court. She successfully works in attack, but she does even more work in her half of court, not sparing herself.

Nadzeya Nadzezhka, Olimpia’s main attacking option, could have joined the real fight for the MVP title, but the team form Grodno had not played very well against the two metropolitan tops and, long before the regular season ended, lost the chances of the top two lines at final standings.
